Yes. Every Gongjindan we consult on, prescribe and compound under the name Gongjindan at DEAR Korean Medicine Clinic contains musk. Some products on the market use costus root or agarwood in place of musk and go by the same name, but they are a different formula from Gongjindan built around musk, deer antler (nokyong), Angelica root and Cornus fruit. We don't sell different herbs under the same name. We use musk sourced through official import procedures, with its documents and quality labeling verified, and at your consultation we explain how much musk went into the compounding and the content of muscone, its main active component.

No. We don't buy in ready-made Gongjindan. Director Minji Kim personally handles everything here in the clinic, from checking the herbs to grinding, blending and forming the pills, and once your prescription is decided after the consultation, we make only as much as you need, in small batches. Being able to confirm who made it, when and where is the biggest difference from products sold online.

Even under the same name, the formula and the number of pills differ depending on who will take it. We ask about your sleep, meals, digestion, everyday discomforts, and any medications and supplements you take, take your pulse, and first judge whether Gongjindan is right for you now. If we find that it is, we decide on the formula and the number of pills to suit your build, condition and purpose, then compound it.

Because we decide on a prescription after the examination and then compound it here in the clinic, it's difficult to take it home on the day of your consultation. At your examination, we'll tell you when it will be ready. If you have an exam or another important event coming up, it's better to consult with some time to spare rather than just before. Tell us the date first, and we'll work out together what can be prepared in the time left.

We don't recommend a set formula just because it's a gift. The formula and the number of pills depend on the recipient's health, existing conditions and medications, so even for a gift, it's best to consult first. After the consultation, we explain the formula, the number of pills and how to take it, along with packaging, storage and how to receive it.

To answer that, we need to look at what the product was made from and how, together with your current health and any medications you take. That's especially true if it didn't come through a medical consultation. You're welcome to bring it in so we can look at it together.

It helps to tell us about the everyday discomforts of the person who will take it, why they want to take it, any existing conditions and current medications. If they've been taking supplements such as red ginseng or vitamins for a long time, please also tell us the names and for how long. If they are pregnant or breastfeeding, or being treated for any condition, be sure to let us know first.

Once the prescription and compounding are decided, we explain how you'll receive it, along with what you need to know about storing and taking it, and we enclose a personalized medication guide with your Gongjindan that sets out how you should take it.
